Why I'm Running for Office
Brittnei LaRue is running for the New Hanover County Board of Education because she believes every child deserves a quality education and the opportunity to succeed, and that strong schools are built by listening to the families and educators most affected by board decisions. As a mother of two children in New Hanover County Schools, she has experienced firsthand how policy and practice shape student outcomes. Her son’s journey with an IEP underscored the importance of individualized support and follow-through, while her daughter’s experience with bullying reinforced her commitment to safe, respectful learning environments for all students. These experiences have grounded her advocacy in lived reality and responsibility, not rhetoric.
In her professional work, Brittnei takes a needs-based approach that centers on listening carefully, understanding individual circumstances, and following through to meet commitments with integrity. That mode of being—clear communication, accountability, and trust-building across differences—guides how she shows up in community leadership as well. She understands that good governance is not about titles or control, but about consistency, ethical boundaries, and responsibility to those served.
Through her community involvement and advocacy, Brittnei has worked to build relationships, connect people to resources, and bring stakeholders together around shared goals. Her leadership style is collaborative and steady, grounded in the belief that lasting progress happens when parents’ voices are respected, educators’ expertise is valued, and partnerships are strengthened between schools and the broader community. She is running to help restore trust, support educators, and ensure school board decisions are thoughtful, transparent, and focused on the long-term success of New Hanover County students.
